What to Expect When Receiving Micro-needling with the Skin Pen

During treatment with this revolutionary device, your skin is penetrated with tiny needles. You will feel very little pain or discomfort. Post-care instructions include cleansing the treated area and keeping it moisturized.

The Skin Pen treatment works in three steps, which helps activate the skin’s natural healing process.

  1. Inflammation – Skin Pen’s microneedles penetrate the skin’s surface, triggering a natural immune response to disinfect, remove debris, increase blood flow, and activate the creation of new tissue.
  2. Proliferation – The micro-channels (tiny holes) created by Skin Pen are rebuilt with new granulation cells that include collagen proteins, and a new network of blood vessels develop.
  3. Remodeling – New dermal tissues form, rich in collagen and elastin proteins. These proteins improve skin quality, visibly reducing facial acne scars and neck wrinkles, leaving skin more smooth, radiant, and youthful.

We recommend a series of 4 treatments to start one a month for 4 months. Then a maintenance plan with a treatment every 3-4 times per year. It can also be used with a series of Perfect Peels alternating a Peel every other month with a micro-needling treatment.

Does it hurt?

Patient comfort is priority. Atopical numbing cream is applied before treatment to minimize dicomfort, and most patients tolerate the procedure very well. PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin), which may be added at the patient’s request, contains natural growth factors that support healing and collagen production. In addition, we provide all patients with a premium biocellulose mask for use on the first evening after treatment. The mask helps hydrate the skin, soothe redness, enhance healing, and improve comfort during recovery. Additional masks are available for purchase for use on subsequent nights.

As the numbing cream wears off the skin may feel warm and sensitive , similar to a mild sunburn, with symptoms typically improving in several hours.

How many treatments will I need?

Many patients notice improvement after one treatment, but a series of 3-4 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart is often recommended for optimal collagen stiulation and long-term results.

How long does the treatment take?

A typical SkinPen Microneedling appointment takes approximately 60-90 minutes, including numbing time and treatment.

How long is the downtime?

Downtime is minimal. Most patients experience redness similar to a mild sunburn for 24-72 hours after treatment. Mild dryness and flaking may occur as the skin naturally heals. Protecting your skin with a broad-spectrum sunscreen and following your post-treatment instructions are important to support optimal healing and maintain your results.

Can I combine this with other treatments?

Yes. PRF + SkinPen Microneedling can often be combined with chemical peels, Dysport, fillers, Sculptra, PRF EZGel, and medical-grade skincare to create a customized treatment plan.
